Yvonne Hurt is an experienced Theatre Director, Workshop Leader, Audition coach and lecturer. Beginning her career as an actress in TIE in Hampshire Yvonne has since worked with many organisations, artists, creative teams, University students, emerging artists and Industry professionals. She has worked with The National Trust, developing site specific and outdoor Theatre programmes, The British Council, Buxton Opera House, Derby Theatre, Big Pig Theatre Company and Uncontained Arts. Yvonne was the Head of the Award winning Theatre Arts Department at the University of Derby and has developed, written and validated many successful Theatre Degree Programmes, (Undergraduate and post-graduate) for Higher Education. She has directed many Touring shows, Site specific performances, Outdoor plays and Theatre based productions (main house and studio). Training and courses have included working with the Peter Brook Company, Many Meckler, Mike Alfreds, Emma Rice, The National Theatre and The Centre for Performance Research.
International work includes developing playwriting Courses in Austria, touring productions in Romania and Ireland and researching theatre partnerships between artists and educators in France and Italy. Over the last couple of years Yvonne has been a workshop leader for the Young Directors' Programme at Liverpool's Everyman Theatre and a freelance acting coach.
Main skills are directing theatre, working as a dramaturg, leading workshops on acting and directing.
Main areas of interest and research are Contemporary Theatre, Playwriting, The relationship between text and performance, Gender Representation in Theatre.
Qualifications include B.ED, M.A. (Gender representation and Theatre - Loughborough University). Yvonne is a member of Stage Directors UK.
